Député de Parkdale—High Park
After a successful career as a constitutional litigator fourteen years during which he advocated the rights and access to justice, the former Ugandan Asian refugee Arif Virani is now ready to serve his community and his country of adoption as an MP. Arif holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in history and political science at McGill University and obtained his LL.B from the University of Toronto.
He was an analyst with the Canadian Human Rights in Ottawa, investigator of the Commission on Human Rights and Youth Rights in Montreal and Deputy Prosecutor for cases of genocide at the International Criminal Tribunal of the United Nations Rwanda.
Arif is the founder of SALCO legal aid clinic in Toronto. He also received the prestigious scholarship Harold G. Fox in 2001 and the Prichard-Wilson Prize in 2008 in recognition of his contributions to the legal profession and to his community.
Arif has lived and volunteered in Parkdale-High Park. He is a member of the Redwood Shelter for abused women. He also regularly gives a hand to the Parkdale Food Bank is an active volunteer with Roncywork and engaged at EU level to fight against the stigmatization of mental health issues.
